The Gilbert Sea is a 175 feet long steel wreck originally built in 1966 in the Netherlands under the name MS Geulborg. She was named MV Paradise Express and MV Miranda as well until Honduran owners renamed her to Gilbert Sea. She was caught by the United States patrol guard on June 5, 2001 transporting seventy four pounds of cocaine hidden in one of the last barrels. Artificial Reef Programs removed its front portion and sank it in December 2002.
A local painter named Doug Bolly was willing to paint the front of the wheelhouse free of charge with several pictures of sea life. It creates excellent photo opportunities until coral growth hides the brilliant paintings. She has been captured by fast growing types of corals and has become very popular by fish, divers and fishermen.
