The Jay Scutti was a 95 foot harbour tugboat and assisted oil tankers coming in and out of oil refineries in Aruba. When she was caught smuggling marijuana a business man named Dale Scutti bought the boat in the summer of 1986 and donated it to Broward County to create an artificial reef of it. He also wanted it to be renamed from Arikok which was its original name to Jay Scutti in memory of a great diver, his son Jay.
Nowadays the wreck lies at the shore side of the third reef, just outside Fort Lauderdale. Other sites nearby are the 40 foot sailboat Moonshot (B.H. Lake) in the northeast and a steel schooner named Pride just off its stern, both which can be included in the Jay Scutti dive. There is an oil rig named M/V Tracey and a pile of boulders named Dog Pile to its north as well. Marine life such as parrotfish, angelfish and many other common coral reef fish enjoy its rich food source of different types of coral.
