The Cannabis Cruiser or Pot Wreck was found at roughly five miles offshore Islamorada. She is a wreck dive site which has a name that attracts many divers and is good for a whole range of interesting and heroic stories. The truth is plain simple; she was a 75 foot long trawler transporting drugs to the United States of America somewhere in the late 1970's. Coastal patrol boats kept a heavy surveillance around the boat, until the owners agreed to sink the ship with its cargo in their last attempt not to get caught. It took five years before she was rediscovered by two local divers named Buddy Brown and Bob Guenther. They actually found large amounts of marihuana on the wreck which they handed in.
Nowadays, she is situated upright on the ocean floor with not a scratch to remind divers of her decay. Hogfish, jacks, angle fish and groupers are common around the wreck.
