Pinellas #2 Artificial Reef Site is located twenty miles offshore Tampa right into the Gulf of Mexico and houses several famous shipwrecks. The 180 foot long tugboat Sheridan lies less than one hundred yards southeast of the famous cutter USCG Blackthorn, which collided with a huge oil tanker in the middle of Tampa Bay. Both the wrecks are often covered with a blanket of bait and game fish such as mackerel, grouper, spadefish and snappers. Whale sharks have been reported here when you dive here in the months that these large mammals pass this area. Other life includes sharks, crevelle jack and amber jacks.
