The wreck named the Lugano had the distinguishable honour to be the largest ship to be wrecked in the Florida Keys since then. It was a 350 foot long steel freighter that was being used as a passenger transport ship between Britain and Florida. In 1913 she struck Long Reef while she was ferrying many emigrants from the Old World to the New World. All 116 passengers and most of its precious and luxury cargo reached shore safely. Today, not much is left except some of its internal structure and skeleton.
