Carysfort Trench, Carysfort Ledge or Carysfort Wall is a steep drop-off descending to 80 feet and ending on a sandy bottom northeast of the lighthouse. With so many different dive sites located near the lighthouse, this is the spot to be for dive boats. While snorkelers have a great time snorkelling near the lighthouse at brilliant strands of Elkhorn coral, divers may check out two anchors from an 18th century wreck located half a mile northwest in 30 feet of water or make a dive at the five 18th century cannons located half a mile north of the tower.

Other coral types which grow here spectacular are staghorn, brain and sheet coral. Huge sponges are common as well and predators such as sentry barracuda and gropers like to hover in the current. There are dive sites that suit all level of divers.
