North of Fort Pickens, inside the Gulf Island National Seashore National Park, is a very popular dive site. Just west of the fishing pier at the bay side you will steeply descent to more than fifty feet deep. There, sights such as several vehicles including a jeep, machinery parts and lots of rubble coming from the fort can be seen underwater. Flounder, baitfish, crabs, octopuses, grouper and snappers are regularly seen here. The summer month are crowded with many trainee divers doing their navigational skills or finishing their advanced open water with a night dive. Currents can be strong depending on the tides so check them carefully.
