Diving Fort Lauderdale can be done right from shore at the first of the three parallel reefs. Mainly used by snorkelers and trainee divers, the first reef is shallow but houses many of the common reef fish. The other two reefs are reachable by boat at about a mile offshore and at about two miles offshore, which offers the more spectacular diving. Depth and currents create better visibilities and healthier coral which attract larger predators from the deep. These reefs together with all the artificial reefs of Broward County make Fort Lauderdale an area with many interesting dive sites. Drift dives at the outer edge of the third reef to many scuttled fantastic shipwrecks dives which have created an enormous variety of aquatic life.

Fort Lauderdale, because of its vast and expansive canal system also known as the Venice of America, is named after the major who ordered the construction of the main fort at the fork of the new river. It is a tourist paradise with thousands of hotels, bars and restaurants, ranging in all prizes and classes. There are musicians, entertainers, beaches and there is a wide range of other activities which can be done around its beachside. There is history, there are museums and many day tours to some of the most spectacular beauties of Mother Nature can be arranged at Fort Lauderdale.

Some of the better known dive sites is an oil tanker from Aruba named Jay Scutti, named by a father in memory of his sun who loved diving. Another ship that changed names was the Jim Atria Wreck, which got the name who helped in assisting the scuttling. You see that many wrecks were brought here by diving enthusiasts many years ago. Those artificial reefs and the strict regulation of its marine life have made this region so spectacular for divers around the world.
