Rainbow River Spring is the fourth largest spring in Florida measured by total discharge, including several smaller springs which create numerous caves, rock crevices and sand boils. Located north of Tampa and northwest of Orlando, Rainbow River is almost six miles long connected with the Withlacooche River, Dunnellon Florida. Rainbow Springs State Park covers an area of 800 acres and has become a prime tourist destination not only for divers. There are glass bottomed boat tours, souvenir shops, you can spot wading birds and there are informative trips about the flowers that live near the river and spring. Up till half a mile from the springs source is heavily protected. No boating there, no motorized engines, only controlled swimming and snorkeling and no tubing.

Diving is often done here as a drift dive through the river seeing all sorts of animal life. Small turtles, large bass, many grass beds and huge limestone rocks are common while alligators can be seen sunbathing along the shore on warmer days. Always use a diver down flag to tell boats that they should be careful. Remember all and you will have a wonderful day for diving.
