Jacksonville is one of the largest cities in Florida and even one of the largest on the east coast of the United States. With such a dense population it is not strange that local sports divers have copied their southern neighbours in creating artificial reefs offshore Duval's County. As each large metropolitan area can keep itself standing with industry and standard life necessities, tourism considerably adds up to its wealth. Think about boating, charters, docking fees, fishing bait and not to forget all the special clothing and equipment stores for divers, boaters and fishermen. But Jacksonville is a nice city to visit with beautiful boulevards, chique dining, beaches and plenty of Jacksonville Hotels. It is an exciting vibrant city full of entertainment that maximizes its natural attributes and welcomes visitors.

There are now almost one hundred artificial reefs in front of the shores of Jacksonville. Some are more than forty miles offshore while most dive sites are only ten miles out of Jacksonville Beach. Rubble, wrecks, planes and cars have been dropped at the ocean floor and create an excellent and divers habitat perfect for fishing and diving. Some of the better known dive sites are Nine Mile Reef with several wrecks that are worth visiting and Paul Mains Reef, another location full of wrecks named after a significant fishing club member. Enjoy diving here and remember, if it is not what you are looking for, what I doubt, it is only a few hundred miles south to Miami and Key West.
