Nelsons Ledge is one of the deeper parts of Elbow Reef located in the south, where towering coral ridges drop steeply from 55 to 80 foot. Currents are often strong enough to make a nice drift dive along this mini wall, seeing larger pelagic such as tarpon waiting for their meal to pass. Several species of reef fish eat from the beautiful sections of staghorn coral and tube sponges. Spotted eagle rays, turtles, huge barrel sponges and different types of butterfly fish are common along this drop-off.
