Koppin Memorial Reef or Billy's Barge is a shallow dive site with not many difficult features. A 75 foot long barge was dedicated to a deceased Miami motorcycle patrolman probably named Billy. Billy's Barge is surrounded by large and smaller concrete pipes, which have been known to be excellent artificial building blocks to support coral growth, especially for gorgonians and stone corals. The concrete is coming from the Rickenbacker Causeway which is a toll road that connects Miami city with Virginia Key and Key Biscayne across Biscayne Bay. Several other barges named Police Barge, Police Barge #2 and Larsen Barge are located nearby and create dive sites with excellent muck diving. Look and search and you will find many interesting macroscopic creatures.
